Since both '[[A Time For Choosing]]' and '[[Encroaching Control]]' discuss the conflict between capitalism and communism, Marx's relevance and influence can be viewed throughout the speeches, however, he is only mentioned by name once in '[[A Time For Choosing]]', when Reagan describes the words of [[Al Smith]]:
